Diary of Events
The following are the dates and details of specific events which have taken place or are planned from 2009 to 2010. All Wednesday evening events take place at our club rooms at Hemlington Hall Farm, Hemlington.
All Wednesdays, other than those listed here, are club "do it yourself" evenings.
January 2009
Wed 7: Club reopens.
Wed 21: Demonstration by guest Andrew Hall.Andrew will be making a Medieval goblet and bowl. We look forward to another fascinating demo.

Wed 18: Club member Brian Haggath will demonstrate the use of the "Woodcut" bowl saver and the "Marrison" jig.
Due to problems with the lathe electronics Brian had a real struggle with this demo, but at least it showed his fellow members that things can go wrong no matter how well prepared.

Wed 18: Club Chairman Stan Lax will demonstrate Thread Chasing and also make an off centre goblet.
Thanks, Stan for an excellent and enjoyable demonstration. This demonstration broke our attendance record, with 62 members attending. This is even better than we have done with professional demonstrators. Well done Stan.

Wed 3: Mick Hanbury will pay us another visit and will demonstrate boxwork with texturing and infills
Club members note:- this is the FIRST Wednesday of the month, not the usual third Wednesday demonstration night.
Mick gave an excellent demonstration of colouring and carving on his boxes and showed us a lot of new ideas and techniques.

Wed 15: Chris Pouncey, from Robert Sorby Tools, will visit the club with a demonstration and sale of Sorby tools.
Wed 22: Visit from Radio Tees - interviews with club members to be broadcast on Radio Tees tomorrow 23rd.
Sat 25: Demonstration and craft stall at Cleveland Show, Stewart Park, Middlesbrough.

Tues 4: WE ARE ON THE MOVE !!!
After nine years at our present address we are moving to new premises at Lingfield Countryside Centre, Coulby Newham. A working party will move all the equipment today.
Wed 5: There will be no club meeting tonight due to the move to new premises.
Wed 12: Start of a new era. The club will meet for the first time at our new premises.
Sun 16: Demonstration and craft stall at Newham Grange Leisure Farm Summer Fair. (until last week our home base).
Wed 19: Members can look forward to another hilarious evening when Simon Whitehead pays us another visit.
Simon had the dubious honour of doing the first demonstration at our new venue. We had a few minor teething troubles but all in all it went pretty smoothly (or as smoothly as one can expect with Simon.) Another enjoyable and entertaining evening.
Mon 24: Demonstration and craft stall at "Wood Event" at Newham Grange Farm.
Mon 31: Club demonstration and craft stall at Swainby Classic Car Rally.
Mon 31: Also on Bank Holiday Monday we have a demonstration and craft stall at Hartlepool's Summerhill Countryside Centre. (two demos in one day - we are getting popular !!!!).
Sat 5: Another demonstration and craft stall at Cheshire Home, Marske.
Today we achieved another "first" - during the afternoon a freak huge gust of wind lifted our 6 Metre gazebo bodily and deposited it in an oak tree above us ...... and did not even knock a single item off the tables. Not an experience we want to repeat.
Sun 13: Demonstration and craft stall at Guisborough Forest Festival, Pinchinthorpe.
Wed 16: Guest demonstrator David Grainger will visit our club for the first time. He will be turning a pepper mill.

Sat 3: Full day hands on pyrography demonstration and training session with Bob Neill. There will be a £10 premium on this training session .
Regrettably this demonstration has had to be cancelled due to lack of support. It was not financially viable with the small number wishing to attend.
Tues 6: Club demonstration and craft stall at Acklam Library, Middlesbrough - all day.
Wed 21: (Daytime) Club demonstration and craft stall at Stockton Library.
Wed 21: (Evening) In house demonstration. Club member Brian Haggath will do some spindle turning in the form of a serviette umbrella.
This was another well received demonstration and Brian thanks the club members for their support.

Wed 4: This is our last meeting at Lingfield before having to move again. It will be an ordinary "hands on" and committee meeting night.
Fri 6: Move to new premises - Hemlington Hall Farm, Hemlington.
Wed 11: Our first meeting at Hemlington. This will be an extra in house demonstration. Club member Greg Ferkol will be doing a demonstration with a Christmas theme.
Thanks Greg for a useful and interesting demo. It went extremely well and free from problems considering it was our first meeting at the new venue.
Sat 14: Club demonstration and craft stall at Easterside Library, Middlesbrough. (morning only).
Wed 18: We look forward to another visit from guest turner Bob Chapman. He will be demonstrating basic bowl techniques.
Bob gave us a very good demo on bowl turning. It was invaluable to the learners and contained a lot of useful tips and advice to all those who thought they knew how to turn bowls.
Fri/Sat/Sun 20/21/22: Harrogate Show. The club is not organising a coach trip but many members will be attending individually.
Wed 25: First "hands on" night at our new premises - our first chance to find out how all the lathes will fit into the hall.
Thurs 3: Club demonstration and craft stall at Hemlington Library, Middlesbrough. (morning only).
Sun 6: Club demonstration and craft stall at Kirkleatham Christmas Fair.
Wed 9: Christmas party at Middlesbrough Municipal Golf Centre, Ladgate Lane, Middlesbrough. This will take the same format as last year - i.e. a quiz, pie and pea supper and a display of members work complete with disasters table (which always proves popular).
THERE WILL BE NO MEETING AT THE CLUB PREMISES ON THIS NIGHT.
This proved once again to be a very enjoyable evening with some superb exhibits on show.... and no shortage of entries on the ever popular disasters table !!!

Wed 16: In house demonstration by club member Alan Rayner. He will be demonstrating his new "Pen Wizard" pen making technique.
Unfortunately this demonstration has had to be postponed due to Alan's sudden ill health. We wish him a speedy recovery.
The "pen wizard" will now be scheduled for February 2010 to be demonstrated by either Alan if he is well enough, or David Muckle.
Wed 23: Club open as usual for a "hands on" evening.
Wed 30: We're slipping !!! The club will be closed this evening to recover from the Christmas festivities.

Wed 6: Back to business !! The club will be open as usual.
Wed 20: Mark Raby will be demonstrating and selling Chestnut Finishing Products.
This was a very informative demonstration with a lot of information for all. We should all now see a marked improvement in our work.
February 2010
Mon 8: Club demonstration and craft stall at Hartlepool Hospice.
Wed 17: In house demonstration. Club members Alan Rayner and David Muckle will demonstrate the "Pen Wizard". (see Dec 2009)
Wed 24: (Afternoon). Club demonstration at Cheshire Home, Marske.
March 2010
Wed 3: Full day training session with resident professional David Muckle.The course will include tool sharpening, fruit turning and pen making.
(rescheduled from Feb 17).(Cancelled again .... see below and April 7)
Wed 3: CLUB MEETING CANCELLED. The Council have decided to renew the floor in the main hall so we will have to cancel the meeting and also David's full day training. At the moment we do not know how long the repairs will take but we will probably be closed until the end of March. Club members watch this space .... I will keep it up to date with developments.
Wed 24: CLUB BACK IN BUSINESS - NORMAL HANDS ON NIGHT PLUS COMPETITION ( GARDEN DIBBER).
Wed 31: GRAND EGG CUP RACE - Club competition to see who can make the best egg cup in ten minutes.
April 2010
Wed 7: David Muckle's full day training - rescheduled for the second time - hopefully third time lucky.
Wed 21: In house demonstration by club member Greg Ferkol - wide rimmed platter with beads.

Wed 28: Annual General Meeting
May 2010
Sat 1: Club demonstration and craft stall at Guisbrough Priory. (Picnic in the Priory).
Wed 5: Normal hands on night plus a talk/demonstration on Chucks and Holding Devices by Stan Lax and Brian Haggath.
Wed 19:VISIT BY H.R.H. PRINCE CHARLES.
Hemlington Hall, the premises where we now meet, was visited this morning by H.R.H. Prince Charles and the club was invited to present a short demonstration. Stan Lax took his pole lathe and Brian Haggath and John Basford each had a small project in place on the mini lathes.
Prince Charles showed a keen interest and talked to each one of us about the project we were turning.

Wed 19:(Evening) A welcome return visit by Andrew Hall, the well known hat maker. He will be making a Greek Corinthian helmet and stand.
Once again we enjoyed an excellent and unusual demonstration by Andrew.

June 2010
Sat 12: Club demonstration and stall at Eaglescliffe Lace Makers' Guild.
Wed 16: Demonstration by professional Sarah Thirlwell - mixed media turning. This will be Sarah's first visit to our club and we look forward to seeing a new face.
Unfortunately Sarah was unable to attend due to ill health and David Muckle stepped in with an excellent demonstration at only one hour's notice.Thanks David, you saved the day. (again !!!)

Wed 18: Another newcomer to our club - Tree surgeon and turner Ian Clarkson will bring his chain saw and demonstrate "Tree to Bowl"
This was another first for the club with a very interesting and informative demonstration of chainsaw use as well as turning.

Sun 29: Demonstration and craft stall at Swainby Car Rally, Swainby.
September 2010
Wed 1: This evening we had a very pleasant visit from the "White Knights" - a group of local motor cycle enthusiats who are part of a nation wide network of volunteers who deliver emergency supplies such as blood and transplant organs to hospitals throughout the country.
Our club has been supporting them this year and through members' contributions and a collecing box at our shows we have collected about £300 so far this year. They brought along their new bike and gave us a short talk about what they are doing.

Wed 15: A welcome return by professional Tony Wilson. We have not seen Tony for quite a while and this will be his first visit to our new premises.
Unfortunately, this demonstration has been cancelled due to Tony's ill health. Club member John Oldham has kindly stepped in with a demonstration of routeing on the lathe.

Fri/Sat/Sun 19/20/21: Harrogate Show - a great opportunity for all our new members to buy their gear and to see some professional demonstrators at work.

Wed 8: Christmas Party at Middlesbrough Golf Club, Ladgate Lane, Middlesbrough.
Wed 15: Club member Brian Haggath will take a light hearted look at woodturning with a demonstration entitled "Food for Thought".
